CEO Campeche

Floor Area:3,166 m2
Location:San Francisco de Campeche, Campeche
Project:2006
Building:2007-2009
Client:SEOPC, Gobierno del Estado de Campeche
Design:E. Duarte, W. Ramírez, J. Rivas
Photography:R. Cárdenas, E. Duarte
Centro Estatal de Oncología de Campeche is a building will be used for cancer prevention and treatments for patients with cancer, currently the best and most complete facility of its kind in Mexico’s southeast and which is opened to the population in generally and subrogated beneficiaries.
The design consists of a succession of alternate spaces and solids that are joined through a wing. This layout allows a natural lighting in all patients’ rooms, direct ventilation in the rooms whose characteristics and regulatory requirements allow it and the most favorable use for interior spaces.
The patio around a maculís tree appears as an extension of the waiting room and a series of chemotherapy patios, forming a link as direct as you wish towards a pleasant exterior that places the individual in contact with nature.
The intention is to offer a “comprehensive design” that deals with both functional operating needs as well as the perceived needs of those who inhabit the spaces; a sustainable architecture with features and values anchored in society, capable of taking advantage of the physical-environmental advantages of the location but with a fresh and distant image of the conventional hospital so that the complex as a whole translates – to the degree that architecture can have an influence – into a population that recovers and maintains its health.

Premios: 2014 Architectural quality in healthcare buildings award AADAIH-IFHE. Buenos Aires, Argentina / 2010 1st Place Healthcare XI Bienal de Arquitectura Mexicana / 2009 Honorable Mention Healthcare VIII Bienal de Arquitectura Yucateca
